About the project

I collaborated with two other designers on measuring the usability of a user interface, reporting issues and proposing solutions. Jakob Nielsen's 10 general principles for interaction design were used as guidelines in this project. We chose Discord because we have experienced difficulties with making servers and inviting friends in the past. We also found several Reddit posts about this issue.

About Discord

Discord is an instant messaging social platform. Users have the ability to communicate with voice calls, video calls, text messaging, media and files in private chats or as part of communities called "servers.” As of 2021, the service has had over 350 million registered users and over 150 million monthly active users.

Recognition rather than recall

Instead of requiring users to recall information from memory, showing them things they are familiar with increases usability since the additional context makes it easier for users to recall information.

Aesthetic and minimalist design

Beautiful designs may create unforgettable experiences that set a brand

apart. However, interfaces should only contain items that are essential and

have a lot of informational value.

Visibility of system status

People seek predictability and control, and in most circumstances, greater decision-making is correlated with more knowledge. Users can feel in control of the system, take the necessary steps to accomplish their goal, and eventually develop trust in the brand by being informed of the current state.
